How To Unclog a Bathtub Drain by Cathi Kruse
Step #1: Prevention is the key. This was my first mistake so if you don't make this one you can skip to the end and congratulate yourself on being smarter than I am. In the event that you use coconut oil for skin and health benefits, and by the way I highly recommend that you do, please DO NOT leave it unattended in the possible reach of your 2 year old while you are finishing the debridement of another child's wound. I can guarantee you that your 2 year old will think that the bathtub is the proper place to dump the oil.
Step #2: If the above described event does happen to occur, STOP, and THINK about how long your ancient water system takes to produce hot water. Do not maniacally attempt to rinse the material down the drain. This very powerful healing oil still retains its average oil characteristics and it will revert to a solid mass when it comes in contact with cold water.
Step #3: Avoid panicking, crying, stomping of any kind. Don't ask me how I know it won't help. Feel free to kneel beside the tub and pray for help, this always works in any situation even if you cannot see immediate results.
Step #4: Get a screwdriver. Unscrew the overflow cap. It will not affect the outcome of the situation but it WILL make you feel like you are handy enough to fix this problem!
Step #5: Do some legwork. This is where you need to shove pride aside and be resourceful. Use anything you have on hand - library, internet, astute children, neighbors mowing their yard. Pretend it's a hypothetical situation that happens to someone else if you are too embarrassed to be honest. And if you CAN admit that it has actually happened to you make the debridement of the wound much bigger than it really was. You know, something life-threatening.
Step #6: Try anything and everything that your sources tell you, including buying one of each of the drain cleaners on the store shelf. Boil hot water and pour it down the drain. Grab your plunger and plunge heartily until you think your arms will fall off.
Step #7: When all else fails, call Dad! He'll tell you to calmly remove the water from the tub and pour it into the toilet. When the water level is as low as you can get it, add the drain cleaner and marvel at the little bubbles coming forth from the pit of despair. You'll never be so happy to hear that loud draining sound.
Step #8: Rejoice silently to yourself cause no one cares that you just defeated the drain monster but you. Remind yourself to call your dad first next time.
And so, I leave you with the pictorial proof that I really CAN unclog a drain if I just work on it for 4 1/2 hours. THANKS DAD - YOU'RE THE BEST!!!

oh my, you have had some fun days lately!! Thanks for the lesson in plumbing, I have been there, though more with leaks than clogs. Plumbing is great when it works and rotten when it doesn't!!
